After Painting in several different mediums, I have discovered that pastel is by far my preferred choice. There is an ease to starting a pastel painting, one simply sets out the sticks of vibrant pure pigment and begins. It requires neither solvents nor equipment such as brushes or knives. Its simplicity and wide range of color choices are what make this marvelous medium so appealing.I also enjoy working in Alkyd oil paint. Similar to traditional oil paint, Alkyd oil paint dries much faster.

When it comes to subject matter I am captivated mostly by peoples' faces. Therefore, portrait and figure paintings are what dominate my portfolio. I find the challenge of portraying the many different colors in skin tone immensely exciting. Along with the correct skin tone, a portrait must show the likeness and character of a person. Though these tasks can be difficult to master, when done successfully it is a truly gratifying experience. Among other subject matter I enjoy painting are animals and nature.

The way the light interacts with a subject is what inspires me to paint it. This is also what moves the viewer to take a closer look at a painting. The eye of the viewer is naturally directed to where the subject is illuminated.

I continue to explore new materials and techniques which help to retain a sense of novelty in my painting process.
